Life is to be lived…

“Life is to be lived, not controlled; and humanity is won by continuing to play in face of certain defeat” – Ralph Waldo Emerson, Invisible Man

Overhead lightning and a dust storm

I was out late in the evening, and this storm was dying, so there was an outflow band kicking up dust.  The storm was impressive as it moved it, but it was quickly dying.  I happened to get one of the last shots of lightning streaking overhead before it was gone.  After going back to this photo I realized that the color of the lightning in the clouds, with the color of the dust blowing in from the east made for a really neat looking sky.

A Culture of Compliance vs a Culture of Innovation…

I know that there are some that think that a culture of compliance is a good thing, some that even believe it is the most important thing.  Up to a point, it is important.  Up to a point, compliance can be useful, since it can help to keep standards high, and can help with consistency.  CAN.

Your Heart

This may seem obvious to most, but all of the technique and determination in the world won’t make up for a lack of inspiration.  All of the knowledge, skills, and ability can’t make up for the lack of heart and soul that is required to do your best work. I think a lot of times we look at the work that somebody else has done, and wonder, “How did they do that?”  While there is certainly a need for knowledge, skills, and ability, I think a lot of time what we’re missing is their motivation, their influences.
